Origin of Tango?
Today 11th September is the National Day of Catalonia.
"Four 'American' ballroom dances, tango among them, were popular in Barcelona in the 1880's, long before tango became a popular ballroom dance in Buenos Aires.
Do the American dances of Barcelona have anything to do with Argentine tango? We believe they do. On the one hand, there is a musical debt of gratitude that Argentine tango owes to its Spanish predecessor. On the other, there are parallels in the development of tango from stage to ballroom dance both in Spain and Argentina."
