Amanda and Adrian

Inspirational maestros Amanda and Adrian Costa are with us in Tango 178 1st -11th June. Here you can see a recent film of them performing in Buenos Aires and an introduction to their tango heritage.

Today, Amanda and Adrian Costa are among salón's most influential and admired Argentine tango performers and teachers. They are an inspiration for many dancers around the world and we are privileged to be able to have them with us in Tango 178. They will give classes workshops, private classes as well as a seminar when they will share their profound understanding of the history and culture of tango.

Their teaching is inspired by the Milongueros who developed Salón Tango from the 1940s: Among others, Luis Lesmo "Milonguita", El Turco José, Gerardo Portalea, Carlos Esteves "Petroleo", Cacho Mantagaza, "Finito"José Lampazo and " Puppy" Castelo...

The most formative influences on their dance are undoubtedly the legendary Jorge and Marita (La Turca) Dispari. For ten years Amanda and Adrian studied under their tutelage and continue to convey many essential aspects of those great maestro’s cultural philosophy, style and musicality.

Such valuable experience gives Adrian and Amanda an intimate heritage and contact with the great maestros of the past that they pass on with passion and authenticity in their approach to teaching and their dance today.

They embody a contemporary tango rooted in tradition.

They have dedicated the past 20 years to perfecting the aesthetics and quality of their art.

The virtuosity of their dance seems to those who watch them disconcertingly elegant and simple.

Their dynamic style, full of finesse and grace, is the result of a work of remarkable technicality and musicality.

As a couple in life, their tango is a real dance of emotion, intense and sensual, without artifice.

Known and recognised for having been pioneers in the transmission of the socio-cultural aspects of a social tango - study of the music, the codes of the milonga, the tango history - they have never stopped transmitting their dance with passion and refinement.

The style they teach is characterized by the search for quality, precision and elegance through walking but also through more complex figures. Amanda and Adrian are excellent teachers with a philosophy of dance, that nourishes the body and the soul. Each of their classes reveals an intense, beautiful attuned conception of tango, firstly with craft and skill, through which they can share their incredible and unrivalled understanding of musicality in the dance.

Settled for 20 years in the west of France, they give regular lessons in La Rochelle within the Toca Tango association. They are also the lead maestros of La Tangueria du Port in Nantes, an institution dedicated to tango from 2002. They perform there once a month as part of a blossoming tango community.

They are regularly invited as maestros all over the world: The United States, Costa Rica, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, Brunei, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, Poland, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Tunisia and most recently Morocco…
